October is Audiology Awareness Month!

Did you know that over 36 million American adults experience some degree of hearing loss? This is a staggering number and what’s even more shocking is that over half of that population is younger than age 65. Hearing loss is getting more and more prevalent among American adults, but there is hope in knowing that it’s often preventable. If more people took the time to see an audiologist for regular hearing screenings and learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of hearing loss, much of these outcomes could be avoided. In light of this increasing problem, the American Academy of Audiology has dedicated the month of October to increasing public awareness of Audiology, the importance of getting regular hearing screenings, and also encouraging the population to invest in hearing protection.
