When we first sense a problem, in today’s world, we might reach for our mobile phone or computer and ask Google. Type in the word “hearing loss” and many search results pop up but which have the best information. Here are some great resources for hearing loss information.

Hearing Loss

The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) and the Better Hearing Institute (BHI) are great resources for learning more about hearing loss and what actions you can take to seek help and why it is important. The Better Hearing Institute actually has a unique welcome message on the home page of their website…

“Congratulations. With the click of a mouse, you’ve taken the first step on the road to a better quality of life. Almost 40 million Americans have hearing loss. For most, recognizing and addressing it can be hard. It takes time. It takes courage. But you’re certainly not alone.” – betterhearing.org

That statement is so true considering how hard it is for most people to come to terms with hearing loss.

There are also local chapters of the Hearing Loss Association of America across the country, including right here in the Rochester area. These chapters can be a great resource for support and information as well as a way to advocate for hearing loss in your local community.

Major hearing aid manufacturers also offer great information about hearing loss, including tips on how to talk about and support those with hearing loss and as you might expect how hearing aids can help.

Tinnitus

A great source for Tinnitus information is the American Tinnitus Association. Their website is packed with information to better understand the condition and it also features stories from real people who manage Tinnitus every day.

Finally, one of the best resources for questions about hearing loss and hearing aids is a local hearing care professional or audiologist. You can get to the root of the problem by scheduling a hearing screening and speak one-on-one with a professional about what is needed to improve your hearing health and the solutions available to you.
